Arts Department
Strengths
Depends. For music, a big benefit was that the Orchestra could provide you an instrument
Areas of improvements
However, not too many students practice in the orchestra. So the songs chosen can be pretty bland/boring.

Science Department
Strengths
Resources. I think that the department overall had the resources for experiments etc. that help with understanding
Areas of improvements
This was for my graduation year, so this may have changed, but one science teacher left the school. So, some classes, (Organic Chemistry for me) didn’t run. So, one problem is that the school is small, so vacancies can be rough.

Math Department
Strengths
Teachers’ overall availability. It was quite easy to get in touch and talk to your teacher when confused or before an exam.
Areas of improvements
I was in the more advanced math track, so I cannot speak to this personally. But, I’ve heard from classmates that the less advanced teachers in high school were lacking in experience.

Advanced American History with Dr. Jundt. This class was a taste of actual history, with readings from actual historians / publications. And, the class had a capstone paper with a very broad prompt that gives room for you to explore.

College Counseling
Strengths
There were two college counselors who know their stuff, and are available to read your essays/edit applications.
Areas of improvements
Because Collegiate is overall a wealthy private school, financial constraints for college tend to be forgotten/not emphasized

Administration
Strengths
Unsure. One good thing was that the Head of Upper School was fairly easy to approach and talk to in the halls.
Areas of improvements
Often students and even teachers had no idea what the administration was doing about any issue. It was like the administration was a black box

History Department
Strengths
Everyone is very well qualified. All my teachers had so much knowledge about everything related to the subject they taught.
Areas of improvements
The history department, especially in freshman and sophomore years, seemed to prioritize memorizing facts over deeper knowledge. This changed in Junior and Senior years---by the time I graduated, it felt like most of my time in History had been spent understanding trends rather than learning facts, which I think is very good.

Although Collegiate's workload is intense, its culture fosters a sense of camaraderie that makes that workload bearable. The fact that each grade is so small---my year had 55 kids---means that you get to know everyone at least on the surface level.
Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
Dr. Bresnick. He changed the way I write very much for the better.
