The athletic department had very good coaches who knew the sport they coached inside and out. Coaches were very good at getting the best out of their players and developing an atmosphere that allowed everyone to succeed individually and collectively.

I enjoyed lacrosse the most because of how tight-knit the team was and how the coaches pushed us and helped us improve each day. Coach Kovachik is the best coach in the state of New Jersey.

The English department’s biggest strength was creating a system to teach effective writing to students. The English department utilized the ASE format and helped freshman mold a system to help them write throughout highschool. Some of the skills I still apply to essays in college.

The ASE writing system. This system was developed to help students deeply analyze literature through a series of steps and rules.

The English department could improve greatly by putting more attention towards helping students revise writing to fix basic grammatical and syntax errors but also to help students build and extend ideas in their writing.

AP English Literature with Mr. Pilette. Mr. Pilette offered a lot of in depth analysis of complicated plays and poems. He did this in a way that helped students come to conclusions about themes and characters on their own. Mr. Pillette expects a lot from his students and he is always able to bring out their best abilities.

My favorite work was the Metamorphosis by Kafka. This was unlike anything I had ever read before and I found it entertaining, engaging, and funny at times. I really appreciated the deeper themes that can be analyzed in this work.

The college counseling office was very available to students and had many strong connections to good universities. Guidance counselors offered many different suggestions to students and their families as students searched for colleges.

The counseling department could have improved by encouraging kids to step out of their comfort zone and not attend the first college you visit.

The administration’s biggest strength is creating community wide events that excite the students. These are central to the community and students always look forward to these events.

The headmaster is very kind and is a very strong leader of the school. Father Michael nows every students name and strives to make as many relationships as possible with students and their families.

The administration created many strict restrictions on events that have been always been fun. The administration began to prevent students from organizing events that students have historically enjoyed.

What is the most important thing a prospective student should know?
Delbarton students are dedicated to their studies, sports, friends, and school spirit. Prospective students should expect to completely “buy-in” to the community, participating in events in and out of school such as service, trips, and games. They should also expect to balance this with their classes.
Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
Mr. Pillette was my favorite because of his relationship with our class. Although we were studying complex literature, Mr. Pillette kept the class lighthearted and fun.
What courses would you recommend?
I would recommend English 1 with Mr. Negroni. Mr. Negroni has been a part of the community for a long time and he knows Delbarton very well. He’s very engaged in the community and wants to share that with his freshman students.

The community was the biggest strength, as well as the academics and sports. Overall there wasn’t many negatives about the school

To be honest, there are not many. I lived far from the school which made commuting hard but other than that I had no complaints!

I think the most important aspect of Delbarton is the community, which fosters an extremely well connected group of students even beyond highschool. All of my fellow graduates keep in touch far more often than that of students from other schools, which I find is extremely special and amazing about Delbarton.

Mr OConnell, who was my freshman biology teacher was my favorite. He was so enthusiastic and helpful to all students

I would recommend the AP classes. I felt the teachers were sufficiently better in ap courses than normal

The Delbarton brotherhood is very strong and the school itself challenges students to work diligently. Delbarton pushes students to become the best versions of themselves.

My favorite teacher was Mr. Thompson because he was my soccer coach and then became my AP World History teacher. He taught me a lot about being a good young man and how to work hard.

Preparing you for college at a high athletic, academic, artistic and musical level. The last two are not from experience, but friends in the arts, music and theater are succeeding in college because of Delbarton.

Price to go there is pretty expensive, but the admirations is very flexible with financial situations.

Delbarton will prepare you for college in a way other high schools do not, especially in terms of writing. I knew how to cite sources, write a cohesive paper and bibliography- something my peers in college did not know how to do.

Mr. Savidge. I hate math and he made math fun.

Strengths
Similar to math, the science department is as hard as you want it to be. You can take AP Physics and advanced bio/chem, and you'll learn a ton, or you can take the normal levels and not be challenged
Areas of improvements
They should offer AP bio/ap chem instead of advanced bio and chem in my opinion. there's no real advantage to taking the advanced classes, as they're just harder and you barely get a curve (half a letter grade)

The history department is as rigorous as you want it to be (AP world is one of the hardest courses at Delbarton). You learn a ton and the teachers are very engaging

APUSH is pretty horrible at Delbarton. Ap world is taught by the same teacher (mr. thompson) and as a result has a well-defined curriculum that the school knows works. APUSH doesn't and was overall a horrible class

They use an ASE (Assertion, Support, Explain) model for basically all writing. It is tedious, but it forces you to make explicit claims, back them up with textual evidence, and offer insight. It has really helped me in undergraduate writing

They are very focused on one brand of student (someone wanting to study business at a private school like BC, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Georgetown). They didn't know much about good engineering schools and schools outside of their most common recommendations (though if you want to go to one of these schools, they're amazing)

The history department's biggest strength was its ability to teach students how to conduct research. While the English department taught students how to write, the history department taught students how to gather information and use that information to form an argument.

The College Counseling Department's biggest strength was its ability to help students throughout their four years. The process started from day one when you were at the school and helped you through every aspect of your time at Delbarton. Delbarton is more than just a high school, it is a place where you grow as a person physically, mentally, and spiritually. Additionally, by attending Delbarton you get more than just a diploma but an Alumni network and community that will be there for you when needed.

Mr. Brady was by far my favorite teacher, he taught macroeconomics and prepared each student for the AP exam. He gave the seniors he taught a great insight into Wall Street.
