I think the math department was good at teaching concepts and being available for extra help outside of classes.

I absolutely loved playing JV tennis for 3 years. The team was a great group of girls and we made a very fun supportive environment for games and practices.

It is clear that the college counseling department is equally (if not more) focused on GA’s matriculation to elite institutions rather than the success of each student. Counselors should focus more on schools that a student will actually succeed at/ be a good fit for. More counseling for students interested in creative careers.

I exited GA clearly prepared for college, but extremely unconfident in my abilities. The culture of GA provides students with lots of knowledge, but ironically sets students up to fail by tanking students’ confidence. Additionally, I don’t think that I would have chosen Georgetown had I not felt pressured to do so in order to attend an ‘acceptable’ college by GA’s standards- I regret the focus on attending someplace elite rather than a school that genuinely fits me.

The time commitment is far too much, especially for students who are not looking to play sports in college. There needs to be more opportunity for exemption from the sports requirement especially for students with disabilities and who need accommodations. It often feels like students are forced to participate in sports at GA, sometimes to their detriment.

GA is a very culturally homogenous space. The people who thrive and enjoy their time at GA come from the same demographics across the board, generally. While GA seems to make some effort to diversify the space and make it more welcoming to those who were not born and raised and integrated into the Fairfield county community, there is not much improvement still to the highly cliquey and closed off social environment

Mr. Dwyer was stretched out way too thin in terms of students assigned to him. There was clearly an uneven distribution of students across the college counselors, and year after year everyone knows and hears about how Mr. Dwyer cannot dedicate the same level of caring and attention to his individual students as other counselors can because he is assigned too many. Students have also said he either “lowballs” or “highballs” them when picking target schools, and overall does not care as much as other counselors when it comes to crafting applications with students

From every history class I took, I really felt that I left the class with a deep understanding of the content studied through readings, class activities, and assessments.

The tests were often very easy to mess up with only a couple multiple choices incorrect - more room for error would be nice because there were definitely times where I was putting in maximum effort and not getting much reward.

I took most of my history classes at Brunswick, so out of the two I did take at GA, I think AP art history was more enjoyable than APUSH, since I liked the creative analysis of art history more than the sheer memorization that APUSH required

Strengths
I think the math department needs the biggest improvement out of all the others at GA, and other than the fact that some teachers do really know the material they teach, I cannot name other strengths

Teachers need to be better at relay new information to students. They should assume that the material in the courses they teach is mostly new, and should not be delivering this content for the first time as if it is all a review. Tests are disproportionately difficult to the practice problems given in class, and students are often caught off guard by it.

I did not have a favorite course in the math department. However, my least favorite by far was Geometry with Ms. Weeks. Not only did she have clear favorites (students who babysat her children) and thus their grade would be inflated despite getting the same number of problems wrong as others, but she also does not understand how to teach effectively. On tests, sometimes she would design a problem wrong, resulting in answers that did not make sense, such as one problem having a negative angle as the answer when it was not possible to have one in that specific circumstance. While I showed my work and got to the correct answer, I didn’t ultimately circle that answer and I did not receive any credit for the question, and Ms. Weeks later explained that her question was accidentally designed to have a negative angle as the answer.

There are many different levels for students to choose from and many different courses available to students, stretching from statistics to linear algebra

So stress inducing, everyone I knew felt down on themselves about their math performance because tests are very rigorous. People who used to have math as their favorite subject or were good at it, ended up doubting themselves by the end of GAs math department. Despite great performance on AP exams, which shows that the general student was smart, most students were lead to believe that they were very poor at math.

There was some disorganization and lack of patience from my coach specifically. During senior year, when it was time for team photos, my teammate and I ran late from finishing a club commitment or assignment and we got to the field just at the minute that our pictures were supposed to be taken, but our coach had decided to take pictures 10 minutes early and not wait for the cocaptains and seniors of the team to arrive for photos.

Greenwich Academy did a great job of raising their students to be strong and independent, but lacked many other aspects

They often missed out on a lot of the core values to raise young women, and that often created a lot of tension between the students and the teachers. A lot of the time the administration didn’t know what they were doing, and often ended up causing more harm than good.

Greenwich Academy is a great school for raising women to feel empowered. I went to the school for 14 years, and ever since I was young, I was always raised to believe that women were meant to take every opportunity and advantage they received. Greenwich academy instills in all its girls that they should work for the career they want, which is why it’s such a great school.

Very good at placing students in their proper English interests. Senior year you get to pick what class you want to take. Very helpful for succeeding in English even if you aren’t a English student

Amazing teachers and a warm and friendly environment. By nature of being in Greenwich though, it can feel really competitive and socially cliquey. But for me, the teachers were everything and the campus is beautiful and I’m very glad I went there.
